Maintenance Checks Explained
Understanding the different levels of scheduled maintenance and what each involves for your aircraft.
Pre-Flight / Transit Check
Before every flightA visual inspection of the aircraft exterior, fluid levels, tyre condition, control surfaces, and critical systems. Performed by a licensed engineer or trained pilot. Ensures the aircraft is safe for the next flight.
Duration: 30–60 minutes
A Check
Every 400–600 flight hoursA more detailed inspection covering all aircraft systems, fluid replenishment, filter replacements, and a thorough check of all access panels and doors. Can be performed overnight at a line station.
Duration: 1–3 days
B Check
Every 6–8 monthsA more comprehensive inspection including lubrication of mechanical components, detailed system tests, and replacement of life-limited parts approaching their limits. Performed in a hangar environment.
Duration: 3–5 days
C Check
Every 20–24 monthsA major inspection requiring the aircraft to be taken out of service. Involves detailed inspection of the airframe structure, all systems, and replacement of significant components. Requires specialised hangar facilities and a large team of engineers.
Duration: 1–3 weeks
D Check (Heavy Maintenance)
Every 6–10 yearsThe most comprehensive and expensive maintenance event. The aircraft is essentially stripped down to its bare structure, with every component inspected, repaired, or replaced. The aircraft is returned to service in a like-new condition with full documentation.
Duration: 2–3 months
AOG Emergency Support
24/7 — 365 days/yearOur AOG desk provides immediate response to aircraft-on-ground situations. We can mobilise engineers, source parts, and deploy to remote locations within hours to minimise disruption and return your aircraft to service as quickly as possible.
